LOOKING FROM RAYNOR STREET, THE FORMER LOCATION OF A TIGHT CLUSTER OF HOUSES AND APARTMENTS, NOTHING IS NOW SEEN BUT THE RUBBLE OF BROKEN FOUNDATION AND SOME TEMPORARY SHEDS ON THE EAST SIDE OF PIEDRAS.

03/24/1960 Raynolds Street. Shown here is Durazno-Manzana area looking toward Copia. The area immediately in the foreground was the location of most-flooded residences just under Zia Village. Destruction of the rock retaining wall which stood about in the center of the photo removed a landmark, but in a few weeks all old construction will be gone from the strip. Final approval for the downtown route which connects with this section was given Wednesday.

07/18/1962 First home in Downtown El Paso to be vacated for construction of the Downtown Expressway or Freeway is shown. The home at 712 N. El Paso St. was owned by Mrs. Tommy Webb Stamper, daughter of El Paso pioneer Tom Powers who operated the renowned Coney Island Bar before the turn of the century. Bids will be opened Wednesday for sale and destruction of the Stamper home.

09/20/1963 THESE HOUSES ARE PICTURED IN THE LAST WEEKS OF THEIR LONG HISTORY AS MINOR LANDMARKS IN DOWNTOWN EL PASO. THE HOUSES ARE TO BE RAISED AND THE LAND LEVELED SO A NEW STORE CAN BE GUILT. THE HOUSE AT THE FAR RIGHT WAS BUILT BY THE MUNDY FAMILY.

11/04/1963 Clearing the way for the Freeway route west of Five Points, wrecking crews have leveled a large section of Missouri Avenue, adjoining the railroad tracks. The section between Piedras and Campbell streets will take in part of the railroad trackage, and negotiations now are in the final stages for acquiring the right of way. Clearing the ground is proceeding well ahead of construction that is not expected to start inn the above area for at least a year.

11/04/1963 As buildings are torn down to make way for Interstate 10, the defense highway that will move through Downtown El Paso, property owners are buying in other areas and relocating their homes, apartments, factories and office buildings with cash supplied through state and federal right of way funds. This view is near Oregon street, where crews have demolished buildings that have been bought and paid for.
