Juárez police found, chased and exchanged gunfire with car-theft suspects Tuesday morning. The suspects crashed at the intersection of Malecón Avenue and Xochimilco Street, less than half a mile from the border. The gunfire prompted the lockdown of three El Paso schools (denoted by the red squares in the map) — Aoy Elementary, Hart Elementary and Guillen Middle. (Special to the Times)
